I Love Summer

Oh, man am I missing the beach! Morning walks along the ocean, the sand beneath my toes, the hot sun on my skin, the sound of the waves crashing, and the ocean breeze blowing through my hair...ahhhh, nothing compares. I just can't stop looking through all my pictures over and over again! I'm so obsessed with pictures.

At least the weather here is nice. It's going to be HOT this week, which is just fine with me because that means we can put our pool up. Let the floating begin! Have I ever mentioned how much I love summer??  I'm so glad the dreaded winter is over and summertime is finally here!:)

So anyway...as far as my training goes, it's been a little less structured with my hip/back issue and then being on vacation. I've still been taking it easy with training legs(as much as I hate it!), and while on vacation I just did a couple of not too strenuous full body workouts with what I was limited to at the hotel's gym. Basically I just did bodyweight squats, lat pulldowns, dips, pushups, handstand pushups and planks.

I actually did a full leg workout Saturday, and I'm happy to say that it felt pretty good. Of course I was super super sore the next day from having not done heavy back squats in so long! And my strength was way down, which I hate, but I expected it. I'm still going to stay away from deadlifts for a little while longer.

I think that now that I can train legs, I'll go back to my upper/ lower split. I seem to get good results from that type of split; however, I'm kind of wanting to switch it up and try something different....like maybe some full body workouts. I'm hoping to be able to get back to doing sprints, and maybe add in a day of CrossFit. I haven't done the strength and conditioning plan that I posted a few weeks ago yet, just because I wanted to take some time off from any intense training until my hip/back pain got better.

Well, the plan for today is to finish planting my flower pots, take Asher for a walk, do a little cleaning, maybe clean out and wash my car, and then do some reading in the hammock. I know I'm a little behind, but I just checked out The Hunger Games at the library, and I can't wait to start reading it!

  1. No worries, you will be back at 110% before no time. The pics of Florida made me miss it too. It ALWAYS sucks to leave, and I always want just one more morning to walk on the beach. :) Take care.

    1. Thanks! It's so hard for me not to go all out at the gym!! I need a trainer not to push me, but to restrain me! ha. Yeah, I miss those morning beach walks the most...I had to take one more stroll along the beach right before we left for the airport. ;)

  2. Your pics from the beach are sooo good! I wish I lived closer. At least once a week I beg my husband to move there!
Can't wait to hear what you think of the Hunger Games book. I haven't jumped on the bandwagon yet, but may have to soon, lol.

Putting My Heart Out There

Hey guys. Here's where we're at right now: Matt finished his radiation treatments last week. Did they help? I don't know. He's sleeping a lot more. Having trouble chewing and swallowing. Not eating much. Not talking much, at least not in full sentences. It's just been a slow, steady decline for the last few months. I think it was really too late for radiation....But who knows, maybe it is delaying things. We went in last Tuesday for his infusion and talked with his neuro-oncologist about everything that we've been seeing with Matt, and he decided that we're at the point now where we should discontinue treatments...I feel like it's the right decision, even though it breaks my heart knowing that there is nothing else we can do. But I feel like we've done everything. All the supplements, the diet, the chemo, the radiation... Matt has fought hard. He never gave up hope. He kept the faith. He never complained through any of this. Not once did I hea
People always said That time would heal the pain But how can that be When mine still remains? The tears still fall At just the thought of you So I know that what they say Just can't be true As the years go by I miss you so much still  No matter how much time passes I know I always will How are you not here To ease my hurting heart? Never could I have imagined We would ever be apart My world has been shattered A piece of me is gone And all I can do is pray For strength to live on I know that one day soon I will see you again I just have to try to suffer through And make it until then

Why?

Why? Why do I care so much?  Why do I make sure they brush their teeth at night so that they don't get cavities? Why do I spend my own money to buy them clothes, toys and decorate their rooms, among other things?  Why do I do 5,000 loads of laundry a week to make sure they have clothes to wear to school? Why do I make sure they go to church on Sundays so that they'll be raised to know about Jesus? Why do I try to give them chores and responsibilities so that they will turn out to be decent human beings? Why do I read them a bedtime story at night, even when I'm exhausted? Why do I clean up after them constantly and cook for them and try to always have healthy snacks and food on hand? Why do I go to their sports games and practices, just to feel like the odd man out standing there awkwardly with their bio mom? Why do I give 100% of myself and make so many sacrifices for children I didn't birth? Only to be insulted and told hurtful things? To be made to feel like I'm
