Best Shape Of Your Life?

"Are you in the best shape of your life?" A guy at the gym the other day asked me this, and without even having to think about it, I responded, "Yeah, I am!" And I'm not gonna lie, it felt  really good to be able to say that! I am in the best shape of my life. I am leaner, stronger, and more muscular than ever, but that is because I have worked dang hard to get here! It is the direct result of the work I've put in over the last 10+ years; the direct result of being consistent , never giving up, always striving to be better. No quick fix, no instant results, no “secret” supplement or program; just slow and steady results. Little by little, year by year, I slowly gained more muscle, became leaner, and added more and more weight to the bar. And little by little, my body began to transform. I attribute most of my success to lifting weights ! Picking up those weights 15 years ago was one of the  BEST things I've ever done. I really can't imag

Not About The Mirror

Great reminder of what's really important for when I start to get caught up in my looks and physique...Think this one needs to be printed out for sure!

Friday Ramblings :)

HAPPY FRIDAY!   It is coooooold here in Kentucky, and I am NOT feeling it! It is too early for this-I want summer back! Boy, I'm in for a loooong winter....   Well,  last weekend my brother and sister came over for dinner. Celeste is 3 months old now, and she really does get cuter every time I see her! She is going to be so spoiled.  I can't wait for her to be older so I can take her all kinds of places-we're gonna have so much fun! :)     We painted pumpkins, and here are the cute ones I did:   Well, anyways.... nothing is really new with me lately. Training is going well. Not setting any PRs or anything, just focused on training hard and just having fun, not stressing about what I'm doing with training OR nutrition. After so long, there comes a point in your training where it's not constant PRs all the time or huge physical changes either, and that's where I'm at right now. Pretty much just maintaining but still eating slightly over

One Meal One Day

When I was just starting college, God put it on my heart to sponsor a child overseas. So I did a little research online and found Compassion International's website, where I picked out a little 6 year old boy named Omar from Columbia to sponsor. I have been sponsoring Omar now for the last 9 years. I've really enjoyed sponsoring a child and knowing that I'm playing a small part in improving his life. It's not just about the money you contribute each month, it's the encouragement and hope you can speak to the child through your letters that I love most! For these children to know that someone really loves and cares about them is most important. Recently I set up a fundraising page to support One Meal One Day  through Compassion International to help raise money for children in extreme poverty. One Meal One Day, coming up on November 6(or any day that you choose!), is a day to skip one of your meals and donate what  you would have spent on that meal to help childr

Well, anyway....today I've just done a little cleaning, went grocery shopping, cooked up some food for the week. Ya know, all that fun stuff. I plan to spend the rest of my day on the couch rel

Lifting is Terrible.

10 reasons why heavy lifting is terrible for women... http://www.liftbigeatbig.com/2013/06/10-reasons-why-heavy-lifting-is.html  Everyone knows that lifting makes women big, bulky, and less desirable. But, do they know the reasons why? I compiled my top ten reasons as to why women should NEVER EVER even think about touching a weight. Ever. 1. You will find less and less that you are asked to go to the kitchen and make a sandwich. What will you do with all that free time?!? ... 2. Men on the Internet will tell you that you are too big. Can you handle no longer being the object of a stranger's fantasy? 3. Pants won't fit because your butt has gotten so big. Imagine actually filling out a pair of pants, the horror!! 4. Your children might see that a woman can be something more than a frail object meant to please a man. Challenging the status quo is never a good thing. 5. You can eat a much larger amount of delicious food and not gain a pound. Disgusting! Pass the tof

Stronger

Just a thought I had as I was driving to the gym today: Our muscles only grow when they are challenged . It is only when they are torn and broken down that they grow back bigger and stronger. It's not the easy reps; it's those last few grueling reps, when we push through the pain and keep going even when we want to stop, that tear down our muscle fibers and force them to grow . It is the very same with our FAITH . It is only when we are challenged , when we are torn and broken down, when we have to struggle and fight through the pain, that our faith grows stronger. Just like we won't get results in the gym if we try to avoid pain and never challenge ourselves, if we never have to struggle and go through hard times in our lives, then we'll never grow into the person God wants us to be. I heard a preacher once say that God doesn't waste our pain . It's true. Our struggles and challenges are usually what draw us closer to God more so than the easy times. The

Things I'm Loving Lately

*Being a MuscleTech sponsored athlete! I was so excited to get my shirts in the mail that I had to take a pic right away! Definitely feel official now. :)   *My post workout Skinny Cow treat! Allows me to keep my sweet tooth at bay, while consuming sugar at the time when my body will best utilize it! Also loving my NitroTech whey protein after my workouts.     *This book..." Radical " by David Platt. Definitely challenging my faith and convicting me. *Fall treats! I was so excited when I found this pumpkin swirl bread at Meijer...what?? I had it for a post-leg day treat the other day with some Laughing Cow cinnamon cream cheese. YUM. *This song by the JJ Weeks band . I heard it on the radio for the first time the other day and just thought it was so beautiful. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kJhK39RVmQ8&feature=share&list=FLx4ga3se4FG07pq2AcKuwug * Deadlifts! So glad to be deadlifting again. I really love using the trap bar, even though
