All For Him

Everything comes from Him
and exists by His power
and is intended for His glory.
Romans 11:36

"The purpose of your life is to point to Him. Whatever you are doing, God wants to be glorified. Because this whole thing is His.
-Francis Chan

I've been a Christian pretty much my whole life. I've had a relationship with Christ from a young age, and that has influenced who I am today and how I've lived my life. However, it's only in the past few years that I've felt closest to God than I've ever felt before. As I've grown older, my relationship with Christ has deepened and my faith has grown stronger, as it should.

As I've grown closer to Him and more mature in my faith and understanding of Him, the more He begins to teach me and challenge me in my faith. It's a little uncomfortable at times because I'd rather just live in my little bubble and stay comfortable... But I don't think that God just wants us coast through life, like it's all about us, like our faith is just a part of our life that we keep quiet about, so as not to offend anyone or feel embarrassed for what we believe.

"Once we determine that God's glory is our goal, we stop taking the path of least resistance and start taking the path of most glory to God.
-Mark Driscoll

If we're not staying close to Him, it's very easy to get caught up in the distractions of life and to become so consumed with ourselves and our goals...that we oftentimes forget the reason we are here; we forget that it's all about HIM and not about us. Our goal as Christians is to glorify God above all else!

To do this, we must focus most on our relationship with Jesus. The more we get to know Him, the closer we are to Him, the more we fall in love with Him, the more thankful we are for He has done for us, the more our lives will glorify God without really trying. But we must stay in His word, we must pray continuously and fix our thoughts on Him always!

"What I discovered is that God’s goal for our lives is not about our busyness or the activity we do for Him. Our goal is to bear "fruit" for the purpose of glorifying God and building His Kingdom. And the way we bear this fruit is only through cultivating a close relationship with Jesus."
-Chip Ingram

What does it mean to give glory to God? Some definitions of glory are: great honor, praise, or credit; a source of pride; adoration; worshipful thanksgiving; a state of happiness. Glorifying God with our lives is setting a good example to others by the way we live; it's reaching others for Him; it's reflecting the love of Christ through our words and actions; it's being thankful to Him for everything we have and realizing that everything we have comes from Him; it's giving Him the credit for everything we accomplish and not pointing to ourselves.

It's all for Him!

People always said That time would heal the pain But how can that be When mine still remains? The tears still fall At just the thought of you So I know that what they say Just can't be true As the years go by I miss you so much still  No matter how much time passes I know I always will How are you not here To ease my hurting heart? Never could I have imagined We would ever be apart My world has been shattered A piece of me is gone And all I can do is pray For strength to live on I know that one day soon I will see you again I just have to try to suffer through And make it until then

Putting My Heart Out There

Hey guys. Here's where we're at right now: Matt finished his radiation treatments last week. Did they help? I don't know. He's sleeping a lot more. Having trouble chewing and swallowing. Not eating much. Not talking much, at least not in full sentences. It's just been a slow, steady decline for the last few months. I think it was really too late for radiation....But who knows, maybe it is delaying things. We went in last Tuesday for his infusion and talked with his neuro-oncologist about everything that we've been seeing with Matt, and he decided that we're at the point now where we should discontinue treatments...I feel like it's the right decision, even though it breaks my heart knowing that there is nothing else we can do. But I feel like we've done everything. All the supplements, the diet, the chemo, the radiation... Matt has fought hard. He never gave up hope. He kept the faith. He never complained through any of this. Not once did I hea...

One Year...

One year ago today... the day it all changed. It was a Tuesday. I got the call from Matt around 3:00. I remember I was sitting at the computer at home. Matt told me that he was at the hospital, and that Bob Scott, his boss, had driven him there. Then he said those 4 words I never expected to hear: “The tumor came back.”  My heart stopped. Matt had gone in that morning for an MRI, as he has done numerous times in the past 10 years. He was now at the point where he had an MRI just yearly now, and that one was done in February, which showed that everything was fine. There was no sign of tumor growth, which had been the case for the last 10 years, praise God. But because Matt had been having some seizure activity for the last few months, they suggested he go in for another MRI in July. We then decided we should move up the appointment, because he had been having a headache every day for the past week. Good thing we did.... After I hung up with Matt,  I immediately brok...
