Friday Faves

Happy Friday!

I hope you've all enjoyed your week! It's been a gorgeous week here in Kentucky. I have to say, I do love this time of year when finally the humidity is not awful and you can actually enjoy being outside again! Here are few of my favorite things of the week:

So I love my occasional pieces of dark chocolate, but I am absolutely loving the kind with almonds. Sooo good. Sometimes you just need chocolate, and this hits the spot!

It was a little cool over the weekend-the perfect weather for a hike! I know that Matt will only go on hikes with me when it's cool, so I have to take advantage of those days! We went to a local park for a short hike and then just relaxed and enjoyed the peace and quiet by the lake. One of my favorite things is to be outside in nature!

With the cooler weather, I'm kind of getting more into Fall, even though I'll definitely miss Summer. I LOVE candles, especially the fall scents. This Glade pumpkin one I just bought makes my whole house smell amazing.  There is just something I love about opening the windows in the house and lighting candles!

I finally got my donut fix! I have been wanting donuts for so long, so we finally had a Krispy Kreme date last weekend. The pumpkin spice donut and this caramel latte donut are both pretty awesome. I just don't know if there is anything better than donuts and coffee! Have you had any good treats recently?

I've been taking my workouts outside this week since it's been too beautiful not to! It's nice to change things up and take a break from going to the gym. Since it's a deload week, it's perfect because I can just use my bodyweight and some light dumbbells, and I have everything I need. Asher likes to sit outside and watch me, but he is definitely not a fan of selfies. ;)
I just finished reading the diary of Anne Frank, and I can't believe I've never read this before! I have recently read a few fiction books based during the time of the Holocaust, and I've found that I really enjoy reading about people who lived and survived through that time, as horrible as it was. Have you read any good books lately?

Hope you all have a great weekend! Drop me a comment-I love hearing from you all(and knowing that there are actually people who read my ramblings)! :)

  2. I'm always reading your ramblings! I know what you mean about the Holocaust. I have a slight obsession with anything Hitler-related - you name it, I've read it. Most people think it's weird but it's my thing. I've been waiting my whole life to go to Auschwitz and I'm finally going in December!

    1. Yay! ;)
I never knew much about the Holocaust until I read those books, and it now really intrigues me, too. Oh wow, that's so cool!

  3. Always Lindsay....sometimes I'm just too lazy to post....pathetic, I know! lol! I have been thinking about how much you like pumpkin when I've been making my morning pumpkin mochas. Trader Joe's has pumpkin coffee AND pumpkin butter (in a jar). I've been making one 8 oz cup of coffee, then adding 3 oz milk, 1 teaspoon of the pumpkin butter, 1/2 scoop of Muscle Tech Platinum vanilla cake protein powder, and using an immersion blender (hand-held) to mix it all up for 8 sec or so....It tastes exactly like melted down pumpkin pie!!!! You may want to try it soon. (Oh, and a dash of Trader Joe's own pumpkin pie spice to sprinkle in too!)..... ~Jenn

People always said That time would heal the pain But how can that be When mine still remains? The tears still fall At just the thought of you So I know that what they say Just can't be true As the years go by I miss you so much still  No matter how much time passes I know I always will How are you not here To ease my hurting heart? Never could I have imagined We would ever be apart My world has been shattered A piece of me is gone And all I can do is pray For strength to live on I know that one day soon I will see you again I just have to try to suffer through And make it until then

Putting My Heart Out There

Hey guys. Here's where we're at right now: Matt finished his radiation treatments last week. Did they help? I don't know. He's sleeping a lot more. Having trouble chewing and swallowing. Not eating much. Not talking much, at least not in full sentences. It's just been a slow, steady decline for the last few months. I think it was really too late for radiation....But who knows, maybe it is delaying things. We went in last Tuesday for his infusion and talked with his neuro-oncologist about everything that we've been seeing with Matt, and he decided that we're at the point now where we should discontinue treatments...I feel like it's the right decision, even though it breaks my heart knowing that there is nothing else we can do. But I feel like we've done everything. All the supplements, the diet, the chemo, the radiation... Matt has fought hard. He never gave up hope. He kept the faith. He never complained through any of this. Not once did I hea...

Why?

Why? Why do I care so much?  Why do I make sure they brush their teeth at night so that they don't get cavities? Why do I spend my own money to buy them clothes, toys and decorate their rooms, among other things?  Why do I do 5,000 loads of laundry a week to make sure they have clothes to wear to school? Why do I make sure they go to church on Sundays so that they'll be raised to know about Jesus? Why do I try to give them chores and responsibilities so that they will turn out to be decent human beings? Why do I read them a bedtime story at night, even when I'm exhausted? Why do I clean up after them constantly and cook for them and try to always have healthy snacks and food on hand? Why do I go to their sports games and practices, just to feel like the odd man out standing there awkwardly with their bio mom? Why do I give 100% of myself and make so many sacrifices for children I didn't birth? Only to be insulted and told hurtful things? To be made to feel like I'm ...
