Winter Goals

Just a few things I need to start doing regularly:

First of all-STRETCH. I am so bad about not stretching. I'm extremely tight and not flexible at all because of that. I just hate doing it! I was pretty good last week-stretched almost every day, now just need to stick with it!

Secondly, I want to aim for 120 grams of protein per day. I currently take in about 100 grams, but in order to build muscle, which is my goal, I need to get in 20 more grams to get the recommended 1 gram of protein per lb of body weight. So really, that just means a second shake a day. I have been taking one right before bed and after my workouts, but I also want to start having one before my workouts.

Third thing I want to work on is getting more Omega 3s. I don't think I get enough fat in my diet. Well, actually, I have recently been eating more nuts and eating the Omega 3 eggs(and I eat the yolks). I also eat peanut butter and sometimes mayo on my sandwiches. But I really need to get more POLYunsaturated fats. I hate fish, so that's out. Every now and then I eat tuna, but not on a regular basis. I have some ground flaxseed, but can never remember to eat it! So I'm going to try to eat more flaxseed and have tuna twice a week.

Number 4 is to remember to take my multi-vitamin daily!!

Number 5 is going back to my daily bible study. It's been a month since I've done my bible reading, and I HATE it. I am definitely going to start setting time aside to do it from now on, every single day. I've really been slacking. My faith is the most important thing to me, and I need to give God the time He deserves from me! I have to get my priorities straight, and spend more time with Him.

And last, but definitely not least, I need to start eating more veggies!!!!!! I just don't know what to do-I HATE vegetables....but I know that they are good for you, and I want to eat them. My goal is to get 2 servings of veggies a day, but right now I am lucky if I get in 2 servings of veggies a week! Someone please give me some ideas on how to incorporate vegetables into my diet! Like maybe some ways to make them taste better because I truly can't stand them!

  1. This is so funny Lindsay because you sound just like I did a year ago : ) I had almost the same goals. They are good goals but I would say the extra protein one is not as important as you might think. Excessive protein is actually very hard on your liver and if it's not performing at it's best you'll never see the results you want.
Veggies I agree, are VERY important. I have had quite a few veggie recipes on my blog as of late so check them out and see if there are any that look good to you. At the very least you could make one green smoothie a day and choke it down. I make mine with lots of greens like spinach, chard, kale, etc. I use hemp protein in those smoothies because it has almost all of the amino acids that whey protein has. Check it out. It is pretty gritty because of all the fiber but if you get the Nutiva 50% more protein version it has a bit less grit : )
I agree that getting the Bible time in there is MOST important. I have heard the Holy Spirit whispering in my ear about it every time I'm on this darned computer. Maybe I should start listening ASAP!

  2. For veggies - I like to roast some with EVOO/salt/pepper for 20 mins at 450 in the oven. They always seem to have more flavor that way. You can toss them in almost anything (like with pasta sauce mmm). Or lowfat casseroles. hungry-girl.com has a recipe for a yummy, light chicken pot pie with veggies in it that is super easy!

A good resource for bible reading is bibleplan.org - you can sign up for various bible reading plans and they will email you the chapters to read (3-5 chapters/day depending on the plan you choose). Super easy bec we all know we are on the computer so much, so getting it an email is a good way to stay on track with it :)

  3. Thanks! I'm going to try to start roasting veggies-I've never had them that way. Usually just steam them in the microwave...and they're tasteless and GROSS!! lol.
I was on a year bible reading plan and was doing great up until the end of October! Now I'm way behind, but that's okay. Started back yesterday!

Putting My Heart Out There

Hey guys. Here's where we're at right now: Matt finished his radiation treatments last week. Did they help? I don't know. He's sleeping a lot more. Having trouble chewing and swallowing. Not eating much. Not talking much, at least not in full sentences. It's just been a slow, steady decline for the last few months. I think it was really too late for radiation....But who knows, maybe it is delaying things. We went in last Tuesday for his infusion and talked with his neuro-oncologist about everything that we've been seeing with Matt, and he decided that we're at the point now where we should discontinue treatments...I feel like it's the right decision, even though it breaks my heart knowing that there is nothing else we can do. But I feel like we've done everything. All the supplements, the diet, the chemo, the radiation... Matt has fought hard. He never gave up hope. He kept the faith. He never complained through any of this. Not once did I hea
People always said That time would heal the pain But how can that be When mine still remains? The tears still fall At just the thought of you So I know that what they say Just can't be true As the years go by I miss you so much still  No matter how much time passes I know I always will How are you not here To ease my hurting heart? Never could I have imagined We would ever be apart My world has been shattered A piece of me is gone And all I can do is pray For strength to live on I know that one day soon I will see you again I just have to try to suffer through And make it until then

Why?

Why? Why do I care so much?  Why do I make sure they brush their teeth at night so that they don't get cavities? Why do I spend my own money to buy them clothes, toys and decorate their rooms, among other things?  Why do I do 5,000 loads of laundry a week to make sure they have clothes to wear to school? Why do I make sure they go to church on Sundays so that they'll be raised to know about Jesus? Why do I try to give them chores and responsibilities so that they will turn out to be decent human beings? Why do I read them a bedtime story at night, even when I'm exhausted? Why do I clean up after them constantly and cook for them and try to always have healthy snacks and food on hand? Why do I go to their sports games and practices, just to feel like the odd man out standing there awkwardly with their bio mom? Why do I give 100% of myself and make so many sacrifices for children I didn't birth? Only to be insulted and told hurtful things? To be made to feel like I'm
