Beach Bound

We're leaving in a few more hours for Myrtle Beach!! Can't wait til my toes are in the sand. Lots of pics to come when I get back, I'm sure!

So I looked at my stomach in the mirror the other day and was like, 'woah! I'm skinny'! Lol. So maybe taking out the dairy and grains really did help! I feel like my stomach is a lot flatter, not bloated out like it usually is. But who knows, maybe it's just because I have a better tan now!

That's all I have to say! Be back in 4 days. :)

It's Not That Easy!

I often have women say to me, "I want my body to look like yours!", or "I want your arms!". Well, I tell them you can have arms like me, but it takes a LOT of hard work! I don't think they realize just how hard I really work to get my arms to look the way they do.

Many women start going to the gym and think that if they do a little cardio on the elliptical and then a few sets of bicep curls or tricep kickbacks, they'll get lean and toned arms in just a few months. Well, when they find out that is not the case, they get frustrated and discouraged and many of them quit exercising because they aren't getting the results they want.

They don't realize that it takes YEARS to transform your body, especially if you really want to be lean and muscular. Having toned arms takes a LOT more than just doing a few bicep curls or tricep extensions. It takes years of heavy lifting to build enough muscle to really look toned. I'm in the gym at least 4 times a week, training HARD with the weights. And I mean, heavy enough weights that you can just barely complete the last rep. Most women don't train like that.

It takes years of CONSISTENT healthy eating to lose enough fat to really be able to SEE your muscles and get that defined look. You have to be super focused, you have to be committed, and you have to be consistent for years, not just weeks, not just months, but YEARS to be able to achieve a lean and toned look. It's not easy!


I've been training for over 10 years, and I'm just NOW getting close to where I want to be...still got a ways to go, though!

Vacation Workout

So I already have my workout planned out for when I'm on vacation. It will be nice if I could do my workout outside on the beach, since our hotel is right there on the beach! Depends on how the weather is, I guess. Praying for sunshine!!!!

I don't think they have a fitness center at the place we're staying, so my workouts will consist of bodyweight exercises like pushups, single leg squats, jump lunges, dips, etc. It's going to be hard for me to get a challenging enough workout with just my bodyweight, but it will be a good break from my usual program. I know my body needs a break from heavy lifting every now and then.

Yay! Less than a week and I'll be on my way to the beach.

Today's workout was stair running intervals. After about 15 minutes of that, my legs were shaking, and I could barely walk! But it felt great! :)

8 More Days

Only 8 days until I leave for Myrtle Beach! :) It will be so nice to just get away for a few days...HOPING the weather will be nice. But it will still be fun even if it's not!

My eating has been really good lately. I've been eating less grains than I used to (I eat 2 pieces of Ezekiel bread in the morning, and then either a whole wheat tortilla or bowl of Kashi cereal later in the day, usually for my post workout meal), and I've been eating more veggies than I ever have! Still need MORE, but I'm doing better than before! I've also been cutting back on dairy products-I just tried Almond milk for the first time the other day! It will take some getting used to, but it wasn't that bad. I'll probably still use skim milk in my post workout smoothie and still have my Carbmaster yogurt once a day or every other day.

I've been eating relatively healthy for years, at least compared to most people, but I have changed a LOT of things in just the past few months. I now eat almonds, natural peanut butter instead of regular, take fish oil supps, eat Omega 3 eggs EVERY day, started eating Ezekiel bread instead of regular whole wheat, recently switched to grass fed beef and chicken, not grain fed, took out things like deli meat and low sodium canned soup, and cut back on grain products, and also cut back on artificial sweeteners(I use Truvia in my coffee now instead of those pink packets)...and I'm sure there are some things I am forgetting! And I'm still workin on it!

It feels good knowing that I am mostly eating things that are natural; things that God created for us to eat, not man!! Lean meat, eggs, nuts, fruits and veggies make up the majority of what I eat. In addition to those things, I also have my protein shakes, Carbmaster yogurt from Kroger(low sugar, high protein, but it does have sucralose in it), and Kashi cereal.. I have a cheat meal once a week, which this week I have decided to make pasta, since I haven't had pasta in MONTHS! And probably with some garlic toast. :) yummmyyy!!!!

Anyway....today I did some sprints, which I do once a week. I did about 10 minutes of 15 second sprints at 11-12 mph on a 10% incline, followed by about a minute rest(or however long it took until my heart wasn't beating out of my chest!). I love love LOVE sprinting! I feel like my body was just made to sprint! Jogging at a slow pace is like torture to me, but sprints are fun!! :)

RANdom....

So I feel very low energy today, and all I wanna do is eat carbs!!!

I just don't think I could live without eating ANY grains. I think I'd rather have a couple of pieces of bread a day than have 6 pack abs! I love my carbs! Plus I'm so scared that I'm going to lose muscle if I try to get much leaner...and I don't want to lose ANY of my hard earned muscle. I work WAY too hard for it.

So maybe one day I'll try for a 6 pack...but right now I'll settle for my 4 pack! Even if I do have love handles that I HATE..................but oh well.

I'm just really self conscious in a bathing suit because I have NO hips, no boobs, skinny legs, and I feel like my stomach looks fat in proportion to the rest of my body! I mean, I seriously look like I'm 12 years old in a bikini! Sigh... I'm such a perfectionist...that isn't always a good thing. I know I will never have the perfect body; I just have to make the best of what I've got.

Well, we decided to go to Myrtle beach instead of Florida just to be safe with the oil spill and everything...I've never been there, so it should be fun. As long as there's a beach, I'll be happy! I just hope we have nice weather. Only 2 more weeks!

The hard thing for me is going to be trying to eat right those 4 days...The people I'm going with are going to think I'm crazy with how often I eat and with me trying to get in all my protein and everything! I am going to let myself have a couple of treat meals, but I don't want to eat horrible the whole time. I'm going to try to get up early and work out when I'm there, too. I just can't go 4 days without working out especially when I know my eating won't be that great.

Anyone have any healthy snack ideas I can bring with me for the trip there? It's a 10 hour drive....

So in other news...I come home to day to a big pile of dog poop in my living room!!! Before I left for work this morning I tried to get Asher to go out to potty, but he didn't act like he needed to. So he must've had to go pretty bad because he NEVER has accidents in the house. The blinds were all torn up on the back door from him trying to get out. :( Poor thing.

My husband is out of town for a few days for a concert with one of his buddies. I hate it when he's not here! It is super boring. But he'll be back tomorrow! Yay!

3 weeks :)

Only about 3 more weeks until Florida!!! I sure hope the weather will be nice when we're there. I can't wait to be laying on the beach soaking up the sun! Speaking of the sun, after a weekend filled with lots and LOTS of rain, today is sunny and beautiful! :) I love it.

Sooo anyway....I've been doing pretty good the last few days with getting my veggie servings in!! I've been getting 2-3 servings a day, which is a lot for me! I still need to work on getting in more leafy, cruciferous veggies, but at least I'm getting in something! I've been having sweet potatoes, tomatoes, romaine lettuce, baby carrots and broccoli. The thing is, since I've cut back on my grains, I actually want vegetables more now and they don't taste as bad as they used to! I guess it's just my body wanting those carbs that I'm no longer getting from the grains...?

I've also been doing good with getting in my 120 grams of protein each day, and I started taking fish oil supplements about a month ago. I've also been taking creatine for the past couple of months, and I think have gotten some gains from it. I've definitely been pretty strong in the gym lately. Squatted 185 the other day for 5 reps! Today I did 110 lbs on the bench press for 4 reps.

I only have a few more weeks to lean out a little more! I've never really tried this before, so I'm not sure if I'm eating the way I should be...I feel like I am....But I know that I'll need to cut out all grains eventually, and that's gonna be hard for me!! I just love my whole wheat toast in the morning!!! But I can do it for a week or two I think! We'll see.....
