To Tan or Not to Tan?

I sort of feel like a hyprocrite.

I'm always talking about being the healthiest you can be...Well, I have to admit that I do something that I know is not good for my health, and that is using the tanning bed.

I know it can cause skin cancer and that it leads to ugly, wrinkly skin when you're older....but I just can't stop! I guess I can kind of relate to people who eat unhealthy food even though they know it's bad for them, but they just love it so much that they can't give it up.

I mean, I just love being tan. I have always been a sun worshipper, and I started going to the tanning bed my senior year of highschool. During the summer, I just lay out in the sun, but in the winter I go to the tanning bed once a week or every 2 weeks.

I am just not one of those people who looks good without a tan. I look like I'm sickly ill and on my deathbed when I'm pale! It is NOT a good look for me! Spray tans are just WAY too expensive. I'm not going to spend 30$ or whatever it is every week. And the stuff you put on yourself is just too much work and smells bad(at least the few ones that I've tried)!

I don't want to be all leather faced when I'm old...but I also don't want to be pale right now! What to do, what to do....

  1. Hey girl!
I had the same dilemma until...

My sister-in-law went to the beauty supply store and bought a spray tan gun and the tanner! Every few weeks she strips down and has her husband spray her and her tan always look GREAT. She has saved TONS of money doing this instead of going to the pro spray tanner or spray tan booth! :)
So between this and using Jergen's lotion with a hint of self tanner every few days, the color looks pretty good and it's a lot cheaper!

  2. Thanks for the suggestion!
I have thought of buying a tan gun before...just wasn't sure if the tan would look good or not, or how long it would last. I think at some point I will probably do that, if I can wean myself from the tanning bed! It may be a little more work, but that's okay! ;)

  3. Take some advice from a certified albino. I'm as pale as they come and think a nice tan can make people look good, but the wrinkles, premature aging, and cancer potential out weigh the benefits. I know some girls from my high school who tanned too much and at 30 they looked like 50.

  4. I also have that spray tan gun from Sally's Beauty Supply. Works great, smells kinda weird until it dries. It did blotch a bit but it probably wouldn't have if I did the lotion everyday.
I tan too! I am addicted. I go once every week or two as well. I don't think it's that bad if you don't burn and cover your face with sunblock, goggles, and a folded towel. I turn the face lamp off too. Keep your skin super moisturized and it should be fine in moderation. Isn't it good for you in the dark winter months anyway?!

  5. Krystal-cover your face? That's what I want to tan the most! Haha. I don't think it's ever good for you...it's going to be really hard for me to give up, but I'm going to try...after my visit tomorrow, lol.

Putting My Heart Out There

Hey guys. Here's where we're at right now: Matt finished his radiation treatments last week. Did they help? I don't know. He's sleeping a lot more. Having trouble chewing and swallowing. Not eating much. Not talking much, at least not in full sentences. It's just been a slow, steady decline for the last few months. I think it was really too late for radiation....But who knows, maybe it is delaying things. We went in last Tuesday for his infusion and talked with his neuro-oncologist about everything that we've been seeing with Matt, and he decided that we're at the point now where we should discontinue treatments...I feel like it's the right decision, even though it breaks my heart knowing that there is nothing else we can do. But I feel like we've done everything. All the supplements, the diet, the chemo, the radiation... Matt has fought hard. He never gave up hope. He kept the faith. He never complained through any of this. Not once did I hea
People always said That time would heal the pain But how can that be When mine still remains? The tears still fall At just the thought of you So I know that what they say Just can't be true As the years go by I miss you so much still  No matter how much time passes I know I always will How are you not here To ease my hurting heart? Never could I have imagined We would ever be apart My world has been shattered A piece of me is gone And all I can do is pray For strength to live on I know that one day soon I will see you again I just have to try to suffer through And make it until then

Why?

Why? Why do I care so much?  Why do I make sure they brush their teeth at night so that they don't get cavities? Why do I spend my own money to buy them clothes, toys and decorate their rooms, among other things?  Why do I do 5,000 loads of laundry a week to make sure they have clothes to wear to school? Why do I make sure they go to church on Sundays so that they'll be raised to know about Jesus? Why do I try to give them chores and responsibilities so that they will turn out to be decent human beings? Why do I read them a bedtime story at night, even when I'm exhausted? Why do I clean up after them constantly and cook for them and try to always have healthy snacks and food on hand? Why do I go to their sports games and practices, just to feel like the odd man out standing there awkwardly with their bio mom? Why do I give 100% of myself and make so many sacrifices for children I didn't birth? Only to be insulted and told hurtful things? To be made to feel like I'm
