CRAZY Thoughts!

This really crazy thought has been popping up in my head lately....
that I should do a figure competition.

Ohmygosh, I can't believe I even "said" that out loud! I told you it was crazy!! I don’t know WHY this thought has even crossed my mind, since I just wrote a post a few months back about all the reasons why I choose NOT to compete. There are just so many things I hate about the fitness world.

But the thought just keeps coming back to me…. and whenever you get a feeling about something that won't go away, I think you should pay attention to it.

I just feel that I have been blessed with a good metabolism, which makes it somewhat easier for me than others to get and stay lean(but also harder to build muscle). Because of that I know that I wouldn’t have to do some of the crazy extreme dieting and hours of cardio that other competitors do to get stage ready.

IF I could do it in a healthy way….then maybe, just maybe, it could be possibility.  Just a one time thing. And not anytime in the near future, but maybe…someday.

A part of me feels that I need to do something like that; something that is SO completely out of my comfort zone, just to prove to myself that I can do anything I set my mind to. That I don’t have to let fear and insecurity have control over me. That I can conquer my fear of having all eyes on me and being the center of attention.

There is part of me thinks it’s stupid to even entertain this thought at all. I’d probably be the puniest person up on that stage; I don't have the right physique; I'd most likely make a fool out of myself, but ….I guess it’s not really about that. And you never know if you don't try, right?

Who knows, maybe tomorrow I’ll completely change my mind and be like, “What in the heck was I thinking??” But for now, it’s something I’ll keep in the back of my mind….

  1. Good luck with whatever you decide. I am less than 2 weeks from my first figure show and I am one of those people that has to complete hours of cardio but its working for me so far.

  2. Um, you would definitely not be the puniest person on stage. I don't know if the US does amateur level comps, but in Australia you have the regular figure division and then everyone who is a first time competitor goes into the amateur class. If you have that, I have no doubt you would win!

    1. Aw, thank you Tara! I'm not sure how it's set up here, but I'm sure it's similar. I will probably talk myself out of it eventually, though! ;)

    1. Thank you! I just don't feel that I have enough muscle or the right proportions! My legs are small and my waist is thick! But we'll see if maybe I can make some good progress and go from there! Thanks a lot, I will keep you posted!! :)

  5. It could be an amazing, really fun experience. I've often heard that we don't 'grow' until we do something out of our comfort range. Sure it feels uncomfortable at first, but you may have a great time and surprise yourself. And if you're doing it more for fun than just focused on winning, then what do you have to lose?
Also, what do you think are the best exercises to build up quads? You have great quads! I really want to build mine up. I'm doing deadlifts and squats with only a 40 pound barbell, but at least it's a start. do I have to go way heavier to get that "pop" in my muscles?

    1. Thanks so much!
I do want to do it for the experience, but I also don't want to look horrendous up on stage! I am a perfectionist and I hate not doing well at something....
The key with building muscle is progressive overload, which means continuing to challenge the muscles as they get stronger. So yes, increasing the weight over time is important and will help for sure. Also lunges and split squats are great for the quads. I would suggest doing a leg workout at least 2x/week, each week trying to do a little more than last time-5 more lbs, or an extra rep, or an extra set! Your quads will have no choice but to respond by growing!

Putting My Heart Out There

Hey guys. Here's where we're at right now: Matt finished his radiation treatments last week. Did they help? I don't know. He's sleeping a lot more. Having trouble chewing and swallowing. Not eating much. Not talking much, at least not in full sentences. It's just been a slow, steady decline for the last few months. I think it was really too late for radiation....But who knows, maybe it is delaying things. We went in last Tuesday for his infusion and talked with his neuro-oncologist about everything that we've been seeing with Matt, and he decided that we're at the point now where we should discontinue treatments...I feel like it's the right decision, even though it breaks my heart knowing that there is nothing else we can do. But I feel like we've done everything. All the supplements, the diet, the chemo, the radiation... Matt has fought hard. He never gave up hope. He kept the faith. He never complained through any of this. Not once did I hea
People always said That time would heal the pain But how can that be When mine still remains? The tears still fall At just the thought of you So I know that what they say Just can't be true As the years go by I miss you so much still  No matter how much time passes I know I always will How are you not here To ease my hurting heart? Never could I have imagined We would ever be apart My world has been shattered A piece of me is gone And all I can do is pray For strength to live on I know that one day soon I will see you again I just have to try to suffer through And make it until then

One Year...

One year ago today... the day it all changed. It was a Tuesday. I got the call from Matt around 3:00. I remember I was sitting at the computer at home. Matt told me that he was at the hospital, and that Bob Scott, his boss, had driven him there. Then he said those 4 words I never expected to hear: “The tumor came back.”  My heart stopped. Matt had gone in that morning for an MRI, as he has done numerous times in the past 10 years. He was now at the point where he had an MRI just yearly now, and that one was done in February, which showed that everything was fine. There was no sign of tumor growth, which had been the case for the last 10 years, praise God. But because Matt had been having some seizure activity for the last few months, they suggested he go in for another MRI in July. We then decided we should move up the appointment, because he had been having a headache every day for the past week. Good thing we did.... After I hung up with Matt,  I immediately broke down. I
