Words of Wisdom

These are a collection of quotes from Matt that I took from his various interviews and Facebook posts through the years. When I read these through after putting them all together in one place, I teared up, because it was like Matt was speaking to me, helping me  get through this.

Thank you, Matt. Thank you being who you were, for being so strong-strong in your faith and for being such an inspiration and example to us all.

"Being a follower of Jesus does not exempt me from facing extreme difficulties in life, but He does promise me peace during those trials. My strength is not found in myself, but only in the one who has already overcome. John 16:33 says “I have told you these things, so that in me you may have peace. In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world.”

“You’re not defined by your struggles, you should be defined by how you react in the face of your struggles. It’s more about what you do with your situation, rather than what your situation is.”

"People say I'm strong, but I'm not strong- I'm weak. GOD is strong."

"The biggest perspective change for me has been a new understanding that every day, we have the opportunity to impact people’s lives. It’s our individual job to take hold and boldly face whatever trail we are currently facing. We need to all seize each day to make the biggest impact and lead by example while inspiring others to conquer whatever trial they’re dealing with in their own lives. We’re all in this together and need to be transparent in our struggles in order to give strength to one another. We need to be bold, be brave and fight together!"

"The most powerful thing you can do as a Christian is give God praise when you’re in the midst of the worst possible situation. It’s an opportunity to show people who don’t believe that you can stand strong in the midst of the worst. If you fold in the middle of a trial, you show that God is not enough."

"Don't become so enamored with being notable & relevant on social media that you fail to make an impact; become significant in real life!"

"Make your mark in this world so that when you leave it, people will remember you not only because they want to, but because they just can't help it. Be true to yourself, never back down, and stand firm against whatever it is that you face today - but more importantly, inspire someone else to have the courage to follow your example."

"Cancer took away my hair, my health, my muscles, my confidence, and my WWE career. But In my weakness, God's strength is shown all the greater."

"Fear blinds us ... Fear discourages us... Fear cripples us. We must either accept that fear is stronger than us and allow it to control our lives OR deny fear and cling to faith to do the impossible. God has not given us the spirit of fear...make the choice to not let fear prevent you from doing what you were created for. The greater the odds, the greater the glory."

"We all will struggle, we all will suffer, and some of us will face unimaginable odds. Those challenges come in different forms, shapes, and sizes but their pain manifests the same. The difference is made when you make the decision to embrace your weaknesses and share your scars with others who might find hope or inspiration from your story. There is purpose, not hopelessness, within your suffering if you can look outside of yourself."

"The birth and death part of life isn't what matters, it's the content of what happens in between those two moments."

"Life is the most precious gift we’re given. If I can inspire others to not give up on the life they’ve been blessed to have, that’s what I’m trying to spread-hope. There’s others going through what I’m going through or worse. They need support and inspiration like I do."

“In the last three or four years, I’ve come to the realization that we would get so much more accomplished if we would capture these undefinable moments in our lives and figure out a way to use them to glorify God and not try to figure it all out. I needed to stop asking why. God’s way is perfect as long as we are faithful enough to continue walking in that direction. I don’t think God asks us to understand. He asks us to trust. We can capture our purpose in life when we trust more than we ask questions.”

"I just try to use what I've been through to help as many people as I can. God dealt me this hand and I'm going to play it to the best of my ability. I hope people can see my story and be inspired to conquer anything."

"I know God is using this. A lot more people want to listen to people in tragedy than triumph. They want to know that God is bigger than anything they face."

Putting My Heart Out There

Hey guys. Here's where we're at right now: Matt finished his radiation treatments last week. Did they help? I don't know. He's sleeping a lot more. Having trouble chewing and swallowing. Not eating much. Not talking much, at least not in full sentences. It's just been a slow, steady decline for the last few months. I think it was really too late for radiation....But who knows, maybe it is delaying things. We went in last Tuesday for his infusion and talked with his neuro-oncologist about everything that we've been seeing with Matt, and he decided that we're at the point now where we should discontinue treatments...I feel like it's the right decision, even though it breaks my heart knowing that there is nothing else we can do. But I feel like we've done everything. All the supplements, the diet, the chemo, the radiation... Matt has fought hard. He never gave up hope. He kept the faith. He never complained through any of this. Not once did I hea
People always said That time would heal the pain But how can that be When mine still remains? The tears still fall At just the thought of you So I know that what they say Just can't be true As the years go by I miss you so much still  No matter how much time passes I know I always will How are you not here To ease my hurting heart? Never could I have imagined We would ever be apart My world has been shattered A piece of me is gone And all I can do is pray For strength to live on I know that one day soon I will see you again I just have to try to suffer through And make it until then

Why?

Why? Why do I care so much?  Why do I make sure they brush their teeth at night so that they don't get cavities? Why do I spend my own money to buy them clothes, toys and decorate their rooms, among other things?  Why do I do 5,000 loads of laundry a week to make sure they have clothes to wear to school? Why do I make sure they go to church on Sundays so that they'll be raised to know about Jesus? Why do I try to give them chores and responsibilities so that they will turn out to be decent human beings? Why do I read them a bedtime story at night, even when I'm exhausted? Why do I clean up after them constantly and cook for them and try to always have healthy snacks and food on hand? Why do I go to their sports games and practices, just to feel like the odd man out standing there awkwardly with their bio mom? Why do I give 100% of myself and make so many sacrifices for children I didn't birth? Only to be insulted and told hurtful things? To be made to feel like I'm
