Do You Have What it Takes?

So many people want to get in shape, lose weight, tone up, etc....BUT most people don't want to put in the work that it takes to get there! I hate when people complain about things but don't do anything about it! If you're satisfied with how you are, that's fine, but if NOT-then stop complaining and do something to change it!! It's in your control!

What most people don't know is that it takes years of freakin' heavy weights to really get muscles that show. It's not something you can do in a few months. It's actually really hard to build the amount of muscle it takes to be lean and defined. Even if you do have the muscle, then it also takes cardio with max intensity as well as consistent, clean eating to get the fat off so those muscles will show! It's not an easy thing.

It's taken me years to get these little biceps to grow, years to get some shape to these little chicken legs, years to get my shoulders to pop just a little...and I'm STILL workin on it!! But I love it! I love challenging myself, I love getting stronger, I love seeing all my hard work pay off! To me, it's fun. But it's definitely NOT easy.

When I'm doing my cardio at the gym, running sprints at 12 mph on an incline, I look around the gym and see people just strolling along on the treadmill, reading a book or a magazine, not working hard at all!! I just don't see the point. Get out of your comfort zone if you want something to change. You have to push harder, you have to challenge yourself; otherwise you won't get the results you want. Half hearted efforts bring half hearted results. (Got that from Craig Ballyntyne) Now, I'm not talking about elderly people or those with health problems-they are the only ones who should just be walking on the treadmill.

It comes down to dedication. You won't always be motivated, working out is not always fun! There are days when I don't really feel like working out...but does that mean I don't do it?? Of course not. I know that it has to be done, whether I feel like it or not! It's a part of my life, a habit, something I HAVE to do, just like brushing my teeth!

I read a good blog post by Yuri Elkaim about exercise and what it's taught him about life and people. He says, "Growth isn’t just limited to our muscles. When you exercise and have the ability to challenge yourself (maybe through sport or just working out), you also begin to grow as a person." That is SO right! If you push and challenge yourself through exercise, it's going to make you a stronger person not just physically, but mentally, and that will translate to other areas of your life, not just to working out. He also mentioned a quote in his blog that I love: "How you do ANYTHING is how you do EVERYTHING!" So SO true!!

Putting My Heart Out There

Hey guys. Here's where we're at right now: Matt finished his radiation treatments last week. Did they help? I don't know. He's sleeping a lot more. Having trouble chewing and swallowing. Not eating much. Not talking much, at least not in full sentences. It's just been a slow, steady decline for the last few months. I think it was really too late for radiation....But who knows, maybe it is delaying things. We went in last Tuesday for his infusion and talked with his neuro-oncologist about everything that we've been seeing with Matt, and he decided that we're at the point now where we should discontinue treatments...I feel like it's the right decision, even though it breaks my heart knowing that there is nothing else we can do. But I feel like we've done everything. All the supplements, the diet, the chemo, the radiation... Matt has fought hard. He never gave up hope. He kept the faith. He never complained through any of this. Not once did I hea...
People always said That time would heal the pain But how can that be When mine still remains? The tears still fall At just the thought of you So I know that what they say Just can't be true As the years go by I miss you so much still  No matter how much time passes I know I always will How are you not here To ease my hurting heart? Never could I have imagined We would ever be apart My world has been shattered A piece of me is gone And all I can do is pray For strength to live on I know that one day soon I will see you again I just have to try to suffer through And make it until then

One Year...

One year ago today... the day it all changed. It was a Tuesday. I got the call from Matt around 3:00. I remember I was sitting at the computer at home. Matt told me that he was at the hospital, and that Bob Scott, his boss, had driven him there. Then he said those 4 words I never expected to hear: “The tumor came back.”  My heart stopped. Matt had gone in that morning for an MRI, as he has done numerous times in the past 10 years. He was now at the point where he had an MRI just yearly now, and that one was done in February, which showed that everything was fine. There was no sign of tumor growth, which had been the case for the last 10 years, praise God. But because Matt had been having some seizure activity for the last few months, they suggested he go in for another MRI in July. We then decided we should move up the appointment, because he had been having a headache every day for the past week. Good thing we did.... After I hung up with Matt,  I immediately brok...
