I Must Confess...

Sohee Lee, who has a great fitness blog at: http://www.soheeleefitness.com/, recently posted a blog where she shared her "dietary confessions", and I thought that I would do the same!

I love when people share their flaws and struggles rather than pretending to be so perfect all the time. I am definitely not perfect, nor do I try to be. And to prove it-here ya go, my dietary confessions!

I drink more protein shakes than I probably should.
We all know that it's best to eat real food as much as possible and not rely on shakes. Well, sometimes I have 3 protein shakes in a day, along with my real food meals. One scoop in my oats in the morning, one scoop post workout, and one scoop right before bed. It's just a fast and easy way for me to get in more protein and calories without having to have another serving of meat! Chicken breast right before bed at 10:00 at night? No thank you. So a protein shake it is.

I consume sugar every day.
Sometimes I have a banana or a fruit smoothie after a workout, but most of the time I have pure sugar via Gatorade powder in my protein shake. Some people would argue that you should never consume sugar, even if it's after a workout. But I intend on continuing this as long as building muscle is my goal. Which I'm pretty sure will be forever. ;)

I use artificial sweeteners in my coffee.
Artificial sweeteners are horrible for you, blah, blah, blah. Yes, I know this.  I just honestly don't think that having Truvia in my coffee a couple of times a day is detrimental to my health...but I guess I could be wrong. For the record, I also use full fat half & half. I won't drink my coffee black. It's one of life's small pleasures. ;)

I don't eat nearly enough vegetables.
Most days I get in one, maybe two servings of vegetables in a day. I'm sure you all are probably tired of hearing it, but I hate vegetables. Well, hate is not even a strong enough word-I despise them. There is no part of me that ever wants to eat a vegetable and nothing about them tastes good to me no matter how I prepare them. There was a time when I never ate a single vegetable, with the exception of the occasional potato or corn. Sometimes I feel guilty when I see what other bloggers eat, with their piles of vegetables at every meal...and I can barely choke down my bowl of broccoli every night for dinner! And vegetables at breakfast? Never in a million years.

Sometimes I overdo my treat meals.
So it is not a regular occurrence, but there have been times when I have eaten so much that it gets to the point where I am beyond comfortably full and have gone into the "my stomach hurts, can't stand up, want to puke" full! It's not all the time and it's not that I try to stuff my face with anything I can get my hands on, it's just that sometimes my eyes are bigger than my stomach! Plus, I am a very fast eater, so I can cram a lot into my stomach before I get the "full" signal! It's like I think I can have just one more bite and then one more and then... maybe.... just ONE more! And before you know it, I've overdone it. And anyone who says they haven't done this is a liar! ;)

Whew, now I feel better! ;)

So as you can see, there are some things that I could change as far as my nutrition goes, IF I had the desire to. But for now, I am okay with the way I eat and feel that I my diet is very healthy 80-90% of the time.

(And I would just like to point out that I wrote this entire blog post TWICE. Yes, twice. I accidentally deleted the whole. entire. thing. the first time and had to write it all over again!! I freakin' hate when that happens!!!! But because of the fact that I read my blogs about 20 times before I post them, I am pretty sure I was able to re-write it almost word for word!)

So tell me, what dietary secrets do you need to confess? I won't judge you if you don't judge me! Or am I the only one who doesn't eat perfect? ;)

  1. Um, I do every single one of these things too. Most days I have two protein shakes, but often on the weekends I'll just replace one of my meals with a shake because I'm too lazy. I HATE vegetables. I just try to make sure I have a bunch at dinner, but I will never be one of those bloggers that eats platefuls of veggies. Case in point: right now I'm eating a plain chicken breast with nothing else!

    1. OH , good that makes me feel better!! Sometimes I look at other people's food and it's like they just eat so perfect all the time and I think, "I could never eat like that!" Good to know I'm not alone. :)

I do like my veggies, but I prob do have too many protein shakes and I eat a lot of fruit.....when I first started eating clean I was so strict, no fruit ever, but now since I am trying to gain weight I let myself eat fruit. (Recent obsession: grapes) I know if I want to lean out I will have to cut it out. I eat full fat granola on leg days for the extra calories- no shame! Lastly, I put straight dextrose into my post-workout shake for the quick digesting carbs. Some look at this as bad, I look at it as fueling my muscles post-workout!

    1. Thanks for sharing! I think it's always good to go through phases where you loosen up a bit and take in some extra calories. So go ahead and eat that fruit!

  3. I do not like my veggies at ALL!!! I can't tell you how good it feels to know that there is a trainer out there that does not like their veggies. I'm seriously thinking of trying juicing and adding my protein powder into the shake just so I can get all my veggies in at once. I've heard you can't taste the kale, and celery and whatever other green stuff they put in those juices. It's really the only way I can think of to get all my veggies. What do you think? Think it will work? Lol.

    1. Well, I did put a handful of spinach in my smoothies for a while and couldn't taste it at all, so that could be a way to get the veggies in! Not sure about the kale and celery....

  5. I use half and half in my coffee and sometimes even a dairy free creamer (it has no HFCS but does contain sugar and high calories)! I have switched to stevia because it comes from a plant, I am against other artificial sweetners.
    I also eat too much protein powder verses real food. I bake with it a lot and will use the protein bars as a meal replacements. I also have a scoop in my oats every morning.
    I consume sugar everyday too. It comes from fruit but I guess if my goal is to get lean then I shouldn't be eating it.
    My other confession is that I will do a small cheat treat every 2-3weeks even though I don't feel that my body is at the point where I deserve to even do this. I am in shape but the kind of body I want, I shouldn't think about cheat treats for a LONG time!

    1. That doesn't sound bad at all! I think I could even think of more "bad" things I do-like I have to put cheese in my eggs, I eat mayonnaise with my tuna and ketchup on my beef patties. And I think your small cheat every 2-3 weeks is just fine. ;)
