Random Thoughts Thursday

~I recently made this yummy, meaty, cheesy thing, a recipe I got from the Girls Gone Strong recipe book(which you can download for free from their website!). It's a meatza!!   I made it with lean ground beef, pizza sauce, mozarella cheese, diced peppers and onions, mushrooms, and my husband just had to add turkey pepperoni to his(he's Italian, he can't help it). It was pretty delish, I do have to say.

~So I've been taking a active recovery/deload week this week and I'm tellin' ya, I just cannot wait to get back to hittin' the weights heavy next week on a new program! I'm going to try out a push/pull split again because I feel like it's the best type of split for me to use while incorporating a day of CrossFit into my weekly routine. At the start of the new year, I'm going to try Wendler's 5/3/1 program again, just using a different split than the last time.

~I've come to the conclusion that this cooler weather is going to make me fat! I cannot seem to stop baking all kinds of yummy things. Yesterday I made some chocolate chip banana muffins with almond meal and oat flour, and the whole batch is already gone. In addition to the temptation of those darn caramel apples every time I go to the grocery store...and the fact that it's the season for chili...which my husband tells me I should make every single week!

~Does anyone's mind ever just go on "fitness information overload"? Mine sure does. There are times when I just don't even want to think about fitness, read another fitness blog, or another Facebook fitness post. I get tired of hearing everyone's "do this, do that, don't do this, don't do that." Stop telling me what to do! (Then stop reading it, right?) I know, I'm just being a whiner. I'm just in one of those moods.

~So just a little thought blurb I thought I'd share....I was walking Asher the other day and was thinking about how sometimes when we're walking, I find myself just thinking about getting to the end of the street so we can turn around and head back home. When I'm in such a rush to get to my "destination", I don't enjoy the walk nearly as much as when I slow down, look around me, and enjoy the scenary as I go. That sort of applies to fitness and even life in general. Slow down and enjoy the journey!

  1. That looks delicious! I downloaded the recipe book but haven't read it yet, oops!

I definitely feel like I'm experiencing fitness information overload sometimes! Between working in a gym, training people, blogging about it and reading other blogs, it seems I live and breathe fitness! I've cut down the number of blogs I read to about 10. That certainly helps :)

  2. I don't get to go outside too often for my cardio, but when I do I find it is my favorite. I believe we could all use a very healthy dose of "stop and smell the roses". Good post, thanks for sharing.

Putting My Heart Out There

Hey guys. Here's where we're at right now: Matt finished his radiation treatments last week. Did they help? I don't know. He's sleeping a lot more. Having trouble chewing and swallowing. Not eating much. Not talking much, at least not in full sentences. It's just been a slow, steady decline for the last few months. I think it was really too late for radiation....But who knows, maybe it is delaying things. We went in last Tuesday for his infusion and talked with his neuro-oncologist about everything that we've been seeing with Matt, and he decided that we're at the point now where we should discontinue treatments...I feel like it's the right decision, even though it breaks my heart knowing that there is nothing else we can do. But I feel like we've done everything. All the supplements, the diet, the chemo, the radiation... Matt has fought hard. He never gave up hope. He kept the faith. He never complained through any of this. Not once did I hea
People always said That time would heal the pain But how can that be When mine still remains? The tears still fall At just the thought of you So I know that what they say Just can't be true As the years go by I miss you so much still  No matter how much time passes I know I always will How are you not here To ease my hurting heart? Never could I have imagined We would ever be apart My world has been shattered A piece of me is gone And all I can do is pray For strength to live on I know that one day soon I will see you again I just have to try to suffer through And make it until then

One Year...

One year ago today... the day it all changed. It was a Tuesday. I got the call from Matt around 3:00. I remember I was sitting at the computer at home. Matt told me that he was at the hospital, and that Bob Scott, his boss, had driven him there. Then he said those 4 words I never expected to hear: “The tumor came back.”  My heart stopped. Matt had gone in that morning for an MRI, as he has done numerous times in the past 10 years. He was now at the point where he had an MRI just yearly now, and that one was done in February, which showed that everything was fine. There was no sign of tumor growth, which had been the case for the last 10 years, praise God. But because Matt had been having some seizure activity for the last few months, they suggested he go in for another MRI in July. We then decided we should move up the appointment, because he had been having a headache every day for the past week. Good thing we did.... After I hung up with Matt,  I immediately broke down. I
